Untapable, the champion 3-year-old filly of 2014, has been retired, owner Ron Winchell of Winchell Thoroughbreds said June 19.

"Untapable is officially being retired," Winchell said via Twitter. "After having a truly great (3-year-old) season and currently the (No. 1) earner for Tapit  —it's about time!"

A homebred out of the Prized mare Fun House, a granddaughter of the family's foundation mare Carols Christmas, Untapable closed her four-season career with a 9-5-2 record from 20 starts for trainer Steve Asmussen, with $3,926,635 in earnings.

Untapable is the top offspring of two-time leading sire and Gainesway resident Tapit, whom Winchell Thoroughbreds campaigned to victory in the 2004 Wood Memorial (gr. I). The Winchells retains an interest in the son of Pulpit.

Untapable's standout year was 2014, when as a 3-year-old she captured six of seven outings, including four grade I events: the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff, Longines Kentucky Oaks, Cotillon, and Mother Goose, as well as the Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) and Rachel Alexandra (gr. III), while bankrolling $2,808,600. The only blemish on her record that season was her fifth-place finish behind Bayern   facing males for the first time in the Haskell Invitational (gr. I).

Untapable won eight stakes overall, including the 2015 Apple Blossom, her fifth grade I victory. Still competitive thereafter, she went winless in six subsequent starts, although she placed second or third in five stakes, including seconds in three grade I races last year: the Ogden Phipps, Personal Ensign, and Juddmonte Spinster, the latter by only a neck.

This year, the now 5-year-old mare's only on-the-board finish was a runner-up effort in the Azeri (gr. II) at Oaklawn Park in her season debut March 19. Her final start was a fourth-place run as the 120-pound highweight and 3-5 favorite in the Fleur de Lis Handicap (gr. III) June 18 at Churchill Downs

Untapable, a half sister to grade I winner Paddy O'Prado,  has a 2-year-old full sister named Untapped, a yearling full sister, and a full brother foaled April 26.
