United Nations Fashion on a Budget

Description:

Monmouth Park has the nickname of “The Shore’s Greatest Stretch” with good reason: the historic track, located in the seaside New Jersey town of Oceanport, is a fantastic destination for any fan of horses, sports, style or the beach. So with the United Nations Stakes coming up on July 6 – which will be televised on Fox Sports 1 – it’s a great time to show off your summer style. Of course, warmer weather also means weddings, vacations, and other budget-bruising activities, so I’ve put together five looks perfect for the United Nations that won’t empty out your account.

Since the United Nations Stakes is the same weekend as Independence Day, I thought it would be fun to integrate the colors of the American flag into the outfit. I love the bold blue of this $50 ModCloth.com dress, and I paired it with woven wedges from Wet Seal for $30. Add a nautical bag from Old Navy for $23, a floppy hat that’s $24 from Amazon.com and a $13 statement necklace from Forever21, and you have a complete look for just $140.

Our next look is so summery – I love the cut and material of the dress, which lets you incorporate its different colors into your accessories without having to match absolutely everything. The dress is $49 from JacksSurfBoards.com, the shoes are $36 from Charlotte Russe, and the $35 bag is from Amazon.com.  Because the dress is so bold, I wanted to keep the accessories fairly simple: these classic, delicate earrings are just $9.50 from icing.com, the horseshoe necklace is $35 from Max and Chloe, and the watch is $35 from Nasty Gal. Finish the whole ensemble off with a pair of sunnies for $9.90 from Delia’s, and you have a polished summer racing outfit for $209.40.

I’m in love with this chic blouse from Top Shop for $48! It pairs nicely with the $26 trumpet skirt from Miss Selfridge and $36 Zara sandals. Add a pair of All for Color sunglasses for $12, a fascinator for $38 from Nordstrom, a $30 Liz Claiborne shoulder bag and these fabulous bangles at $45 from Simply Soles and you have a very chic United Nations look for $235.

Our next look keeps it beachy for an afternoon of racing on the Jersey Shore. I love the breeziness of the $45 Bohoo Lina maxi dress, and the gold flat sandals at $34 from Nine West add to the effect. Add a straw bag for $38 from Barney’s, $29 Floats Eyewear glasses, and boho earrings ($23, Asos) and bangles ($5.98, Body Central) and you have a perfect laid-back summer racing look for $174.98.

Black and white is so big for Summer 2014, and I’m seriously considering buying this $27 vintage-inspired dress from Prinkko that’s the centerpiece of our final ensemble. The black wedges are $19 from Daily Look, the Aldo handbag that lends the essential pop of color is $50, and the $38 fascinator (which mimics the polka dots of the dress without being too literal) is from Nordstrom. Add a sleek gold cuff for $30 from Bloomingdales, a classic pair of pearl earrings from Shop Bop at $21 and finish it all off with red nail lacquer from Crabtree & Evelyn at $6 and you’re ready for the races for just $191!
