Central Kentucky sire Stormy Atlantic gained his 100th black-type winner June 17 when Tahanee won the Omega (Arg-III) at San Isidro in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A 22-year-old son of Storm Cat, Stormy Atlantic stands at John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farms near Lexington for a 2016 fee of $25,000.
Stormy Atlantic, who stood at Bridlewood Farm in Florida before joining the Hill 'n' Dale roster in 2003, won a pair of stakes and earned $148,126, His dam, Hail Atlantis, by Seattle Slew, was a grade I winner, and his second dam, Flippers, is one of seven stakes winners produced from 1965 co-Horse of the Year Moccasin.
Stormy Atlantic also has 39 graded stakes winners among 840 winners from 1,150 foals in 15 crops of racing age. He is the sire of six champions, including Canadian Horse of the Year Up With the Birds. His 1,179 starters, which include 72 black-type placers, have earned purses of more than $79 million.
Other top progeny include grade I winnners Get Stormy , Stormy Lucy, Stromello and group II winner Barbecue Eddie.
Los Criollos' Tahanee, a 3-year-old filly trained by Roberto Pellegatta, scored by two lengths and covered one mile in 1:38.78 for her fourth win from six starts. She was bred by Phalaris Srl from the Danehill Dancer mare Tawafeej, whose foals include South African stakes-placed Titlee.
