Ciaglia Elected, Four Re-Elected to TOC Board

The Thoroughbred Owners of California elected Joe Ciaglia and re-elected incumbents Nick Alexander, Ron Ellis, Billy Morey, and Samantha Siegel to its board of directors. 

All five were elected to three-year terms. The new board officially takes office July 1.

Ciaglia is chief executive officer of California Landscape & Design and California Skateparks. He has owned Thoroughbreds since 1999 and has campaigned several graded stakes winners, including Weemissfrankie, Dance With Fate, and Ashleyluvssugar.

Alexander, who is elected to his second three-year term, serves as secretary/treasurer as well as chair of the finance committee.

 

Ellis has served on the board for eight years as an owner-trainer representative and is a member of the Racing Affairs and Medication & Integrity committees. 

Morey, who is an owner-trainer member and Northern California representative, has been on the board since 2012. 

Siegel was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board in January of this year.

A total of 6,980 ballots were mailed out to eligible voters, and 1,513 qualifying ballots were received. The complete vote tally is available for viewing on TOC's web site at www.toconline.com.

The newly elected directors join Allen Aldrich, Bob Baffert, Mark Dedomenico, Mike Harrington, Terry Lovingier, Ed Moger, Jack Owens, Mike Pegram, Bill Strauss, and Kathy Walsh in comprising TOC's 2016-17 board.

Current TOC bylaws require that at least three board members be from Northern California. Representing Northern California on the board are Aldrich, Moger, Morey, and Owens. 

TOC bylaws allow for up to six owner-trainers on the board, and representing the owner-trainer seats are Baffert, Ellis, Harrington, Moger, Morey, and Walsh.
