Mid-Atlantic-based trainer John McKee secured the 1,000th victory of his career June 18 when he saddled Silkentown to a narrow win in the first race at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races .
McKee, who also owns Silkentown, watched the 3-year-old Speightstown filly rally from fourth and just get up for jockey Antonio Lopez to score a head victory in the 4 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race.
McKee’s career starters have earned more than $10 million. Through June 18 he had registered 1,000 wins from 10,000 starters.
The veteran trainer picked up a graded-stakes win in 1993 when he sent out Silver Key to a victory in the Cherry Hill Mile Stakes (gr. III) at Garden State Park.
