Leading Maryland jockey Trevor McCarthy returned to the saddle July 4 at Laurel Park two days after he was thrown from a horse in the gallop-out after a victory.
There were indications McCarthy could have missed more time, but he returned quickly. He had six mounts; he finished second with three and third with another.
"I feel very well," McCarthy said. "(July 3) was not so good. I was very sore. I had trouble with my knee. I strained it. I just put on a lot of ice and a lot of Tiger Balm and that did the job well. I wrapped it up and just rested it, and this morning I was feeling pretty good."
McCarthy, 22, was injured after being unseated by the 3-year-old filly Giddy Up following their victory in Saturday's fourth race. The rider fell into the path of Awake the Day and was hit on the right knee.
McCarthy has five mounts lined up for July 6 at Delaware Park and is named aboard Ben's Cat in the Parx Dash (gr. IIIT) July 9 at Parx Racing.
