With an eye toward selecting dates that will help more members attend, the next Jockeys’ Guild Assembly will be conducted Dec. 11-13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The past five editions of the Guild assembly (including February this year) have been conducted in January or February in South Florida. Jockeys’ Guild chairman John Velazquez believes more riders will be able to attend the assembly in December.

“It is important that all jockeys in the United States attend the annual assembly because they are a vital part of the horse racing industry,” Velazquez said. “We need input from every jockey—Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse—based anywhere and everywhere in the U.S. to ensure our organization and industry remain strong.”

Sessions will begin Monday, Dec. 12 with a cocktail reception at the MGM Grand that evening. In addition, the bi-annual election of officers will take place. A half-day session is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 13 and the assembly will conclude with the annual awards luncheon that afternoon.
