Kentucky Downs near Franklin, Ky., plans about $4 million worth of facility renovations and hopes most are in place by the time the track opens for its five days of live racing beginning Sept. 3.

The project will focus on renovations and expansion to the red brick building that serves as the track's grandstand and houses its historical racing games. Kentucky Downs general manager Ted Nicholson told the Bowling Green Daily News that the 26-year-old building's entrance would be updated to look more like a modern gaming facility.

Nicholson also said plans call for a glass enclosing of the entire back of the building that faces the race course. He also said walls would be removed to create more open space.

Many plans are still being finalized and Nicholson told the paper that any renovations not completed before the meet would continue after 2016 live racing concludes Sept. 15.
