Jockeys Orlando Mojica and Frankie Pennington both won their 2,000th career race July 10—with a caveat for Mojica.
Mojica is credited with one win in Puerto RIco; Equibase statistics track the numbers by wins in the United States and Canada only, so he's still listed at 1,999. Canterbury Park, however, issued a release after Mojica won the track's 10th race Sunday with Breezy West Farms' Sam Scored a Goal, a son of Even the Score.
Pennington won the sixth race at Parx Racing in Pennsylvania with Now We Are Free, a son of First Samurai who was owned and trained by Kelly Breen but was claimed from the race for $8,000. All of his wins meet the Equibase criteria.
Mojica, 34, has won riding titles in Indiana and Kentucky. Pennington, 29, has won three riding titles Parx, which races almost year-round.
