Parx Racing has added a $150,000 stakes for 3-year-old fillies at one mile Sept. 3 designed to serve as a Cotillion Stakes (gr. I) prep for Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) winner Cathryn Sophia.
Cash is King's Cathryn Sophia, a Street Boss filly, is trained by John Servis, who has a stable at Parx. She is being pointed to the $1 million Cotillion, a 3-year-old filly stakes at 1 1/8 miles set for Sept. 24 at the Pennsylvania track.
The new race is named for King of Prussia Stable's Pennsylvania-bred Princess of Sylmar, who earned more than $1.8 million.
Parx officials said Fox Hill Farm's undefeated champion Songbird is expected for the Cotillion. Songbird is scheduled to race next in the $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I) July 24 at Saratoga Race Course.
Cathryn Sophia in her last start finished third in the June 11 Acorn Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park. She has raced at Parx once—she won her career debut in a maiden special weight event by 12 3/4 lengths Oct. 30 of last year.
"We're looking forward to it," Servis told Parx media officials. "It's still a ways off and we hope all goes well up to that point, but it gives us a chance to get a race over the track before the Cotillion."
The Sept. 3 program at Parx is "Pennsylvania's Day at the Races," which also offers five $100,000 stakes for state-bred runners.
