Jockey Antonio Gallardo, currently ranked second in wins this season among North American-based jockeys, secured the 1,000th victory of his career July 19 when he guided The Fazz Man to victory in the seventh race at Presque Isle Downs.
Gallardo and Jamen Davidovich's The Fazz Man enjoyed a clear lead at each point of call and registered a one-length win in Tuesday's 5 1/2-furlong allowance race.
Through July 19, Gallardo leads the Presque Isle rider standings with 67 wins as he tries to secure his third straight riding title there. Gallardo also earned the riding title at this year's Tampa Bay Downs meet, one year after setting the single-season record there for wins at 147.
Win 1,000 came one day after Gallardo's 29th birthday. Born in Spain and a current resident of Tampa, Fla., Gallardo has won 190 races this season, which ranks second to Jose Ortiz's 195 among North American-based riders. Last year Gallardo won 320 races, which ranked second to the 344 of Eclipse Award winner Javier Castellano.
Gallardo has won 29 black-type stakes including nine stakes wins this year.
