Coastal Sea sets course record at Laurel Park July 24
Opal Eileen Paul's Coastal Sea and Nicholaos Panopoulos and Sotirios Sakatis' Heiko set records on the Laurel Park turf on a hot July 24.
Ridden by Angel Cruz for trainer Tim Keefe, Coastal Sea (by Kantharos ), racing in an entry-level allowance race, ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:01 on the Bowling Green Turf Course, which was rated firm. It broke the previous mark of 1:01.04 set by Whatsnottolike Sept. 26, 2012.
It was the fourth record set on the Bowling Green course this year and second of the day, following Heiko's victory in 1:40.47 for 1 1/16 miles. The time surpassed the previous mark of 1:40.96 set by 6-year-old Relentless Ride (Candy Ride ) April 17.
Heiko (by Mr. Greeley) won for the third consecutive time in his record-setting performance in a starter allowance test for horses that have started for a claiming price of $7,500 or less. He is trained by Dimitrios Synnefias and was ridden by Edwin Gonzalez.
Seeking Treasure (Run Away and Hide ) captured the Dahlia Stakes in a record 1:33.99 for one mile April 16.
