Pamela Blatz-Murff, who helped develop Breeders' Cup into one of racing's more prestigious and successful events, has joined the board of directors of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.
As senior vice president of operations for the Breeders' Cup, Blatz-Murff's primary responsibility was to coordinate nominations, entries, and horsemen' services. She began working for the Breeders' Cup in 1982 and remained there for 27 years
In 2001, she was named recipient of the Lord Derby Award for Services to International Racing by the Horserace Writers & Photographers Association of England.
A resident of Lexington, Blatz-Murff has spent recent years as a member of the Health and Regulation Committee of the American Horse Council.
"We couldn't have found a better member for our board," said TRF chairman, chief executive officer and president Leonard C. Hale. "Pam was with the Breeders' Cup from Day 1 and we worked together for a long time. And every time, everything was done first class. She loves Thoroughbreds and we are very happy to have her on board."
"For me, it is an honor to be a member of the TRF board," Blatz-Murff said. "I love the horses and I will do my best to continue the good work of the TRF in improving the lives of hundreds of horses,"
In addition to spending time with her grandchildren, Blatz-Murff is an active Thoroughbred racehorse owner and breeder and has counted Hall of Famers Neil Drysdale, Bill Mott, and the late Bobby Frankel among her trainers.
Currently, she has a 3-year-old filly, Star Keeper, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Cape Blanco—Beefeater Baby, by Thunder Gulch. Star Keeper is in training with Mott.
