Brian Kavanagh, chief executive of Horse Racing Ireland, has been re-appointed for another five years effective in September.

The HRI board voted on the matter July 21, and it received the consent of the ministers of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and Public Expenditure and Reform.

"Brian is one of the leading racing administrators in the world as we see from his leadership role in so many international racing bodies," HRI chairman Joe Keeling said in a release. "Brian's wide-ranging knowledge and contacts in the racing and breeding industries, as well as his skills and experience, will be indispensable in dealing with the various challenges and great opportunities which we face in the coming years."

HRI said the re-appointment comes at a time of "significant change and development" in Ireland, including the redevelopment of The Curragh, legislative and structural changes for racing, and a draft strategic plan designed to increase racing's contributions to the Irish economy.

Kavanagh will continue to serve as vice chairman of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, chairman of the European and Mediterranean Horseracing Federation, and chairman of the European Pattern Race Committee.
