Since relocating to the state of her birth this spring, Sequel Racing's Haveyougoneaway has raced with her fellow New York-breds, but took the step up to graded stakes competition with aplomb July 27.
The 5-year-old Congrats mare trained by Thomas Morley stalked a group of eager frontrunners early on in the $200,000 Honorable Miss (gr. II) Wednesday at Saratoga Race Course, made a wide move at the top of the stretch and outfinished two-time grade III winner Paulassilverlining in the final sixteenth to win by a neck.
Before relocating to New York, Haveyougoneaway won three stakes in the Southwest since September of 2015—the Spring Fever and American Beauty at Oaklawn Park, and the Flashy Lady at Remington Park. She carried that form into her native state with a second-place run in the Critical Eye May 30 and a 2 3/4-length victory last time out July 3 in the Dancin Renee Stakes, and continued her stretch of success in the Honorable Miss to give Morley his first Saratoga stakes win.
Four frontrunners were about a length apart, with Diva Express the fastest, through a quarter-mile in :22.01, but Disco Chick took clear command through a half in :45.04 and held for third as the two off-the-pace runners drew off in the stretch to finish off the six furlongs in 1:09.94.
On nearly even terms with Paulassilverlining in the backstretch during the six-furlong event, jockey Kendrick Carmouche decided to be a bit more patient in the turn with Haveyougoneaway, as her rival advanced on the inside. The eventual winner went four wide into the stretch as Paulassilverlining took a 1 1/2-length advantage, but was just able to get a head in front at the wire.
Off as the 7-2 third choice, Haveyougoneaway paid $9.40, $4, and $3.20 across the board. Paulassilverlining, who came into the race off back-to-back scores in the Vagrancy and Distaff handicaps (both gr. III) brought $2.90 and $2.50. Disco Chick delivered $4.80 to show.
Bred by Andy and Susan Beadnell, out of the Wiseman's Ferry mare One Wise Cowgirl, Haveyougoneaway now has a 10-4-6 record from 25 starts with $622,425 in earnings.
