World Record-Priced Filly Wins Debut

Al Naamah, a daughter of Galileo who brought a filly world-record price of 5 million guineas at the 2013 Tattersalls October yearling sale, was successful in her career debut at France's Chantilly Racecourse June 23.
Trained by Andre Fabre for Sheikh Joaan al Thani's Al Shaqab Racing, the full sister to 2012 Epsom Oaks (Eng-I) winner Was had little trouble dispatching six competitors in the seven-furlong turf test. Ridden by Maxime Guyon as the even-money favorite, Al Naamah defeated previous winner Kenouska by two lengths.
Following the victory, Al Shaqab Racing tweeted: "Winner!! Al Naamah is so impressive on her debut at Chantilly this afternoon! Andre has a very big smile on his face!"
Consigned by breeder Lodge Park Stud to the Tattersalls sale last year, Al Naamah was purchased by Nicolas de Watrigant's Mandore International, who outbid Coolmore's John Magnier, for the U.S. equivalent of $8,450,925, a world record for a yearling filly sold at public auction and a European record for an auction yearling.
