Tencendur Set for Comeback After Injury

Highly regarded 4-year-old colt Tencendur, whose 3-year-old campaign was cut short because of a broken sesamoid near his left front foot, is scheduled to make his first start since last June in an allowance event at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 1.

Owned and bred by Philip Birsh, Tencendur, by Warrior's Reward, is entered in the second race, an entry-level allowance test for New York-breds at 1 1/8 miles.

"It has been a long time off but we figured this is a good place to get him started back, and hopefully he gets back to what we thought he could do before," trainer George Weaver said. "He really is a two-turn horse. Running him seven-eighths of a mile would probably be a little more difficult because he doesn't have that early gate speed. We figured the mile and an eighth fit him better."

Though he has one win in seven starts, Tencendur finished second to Frosted in the Wood Memorial Stakes (gr. I) in April 2015. That effort secured a trip to Churchill Downs, where he finished 17th in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).

In his final start before the injury, Tencendur finished second, a nose behind Mr. Z, in the Ohio Derby. He most recently worked six furlongs in 1:13 2/5 at Saratoga July 24.
