With Parx Racing in Pennsylvania closed for live racing from Aug. 10-Sept. 2, the Maryland Jockey Club Aug. 6 said it will pay all shipping expenses to Laurel Park for horses stabled at Parx throughout August.
MJC president and general manager Sal Sinatra said the move is designed to increase field size at renovated Laurel and provide more opportunitiesĀ for Mid-Atlantic horsemen.
"We continue to rebuild Maryland racing by upgrading our facilities, growing our off-track betting network, and putting together competitive races with full fields," Sinatra said in a release. "We will continue working with horsemen throughout North America to card quality races on our main track and newly renovated, world-class turf course throughout the entire year."
The Laurel summer meet runs through Aug. 21, followed by a seven-day session at the Maryland State Fair at Timonium. Laurel reopens for live racing Sept. 9.
