Racing at Ruidoso Downs was canceled Aug. 6 following a torrential downpour with hail that hit the track several minutes before horses were set to come on to the track for the first race. The heavy rain lasted about 30 minutes.
"Safety of the jockeys and horses is always the prime goal at Ruidoso Downs," Ruidoso president and general manager Shaun Hubbard said
Saturday's card at the New Mexico track included the $50,000 Aspen Cup for 3-year-old Thoroughbred fillies. It has not been decided if the race will be rescheduled.
Racing at Ruidoso Downs is to resume Aug. 7 with the usual 1 p.m. MT first post time.
