New Jersey's efforts to legalize sports gambling suffered a setback Aug. 9 when the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals determined that allowing such wagering in the state would violate the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act.
The decision was reported by the Washington Post and other news outlets.
The Post noted that in a 10-to-2 vote, the Third Circuit sided with the NCAA and the sports leagues, though two of the judges wrote dissenting opinions.
Racetracks Monmouth Park and Meadowlands plan to add sports wagering if the state finds a way to allow the wagering under federal law.
