Because of a shortage of available horses, Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack has canceled its Aug. 13 live racing card.

A statement from the track said the race day was canceled "in order to maintain horse field size for future racing days on the schedule."

The track said it's about halfway through its 155-day meet and maintaining field size throughout the remainder of the schedule is a primary concern.

"With entries for Saturday's program lagging, it was determined that running five days this week as originally scheduled would increase the difficulty of maintaining competition-ready horses in future weeks," the statement said.

The track did not announce any further schedule changes and will resume racing Aug. 15, with a first post of 1:10 p.m. EDT.
