Saratoga Cancels Saturday's Final Six Races

Rain cascades off a gutter at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 13
The New York Racing Association decided to call off the final six races of the Aug. 13 card at Saratoga Race Course, citing severe weather conditions.
A series of severe summer thunderstorms, complete with heavy rain and lightning, forced the cancellation after the fifth race.
The cancellation affected races 6-11 on the Saturday card, a stretch that included the $200,000 Adirondack Stakes (gr. II) for juvenile fillies going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track and the Fourstardave Stakes (gr. IT) for 3-year-olds and older at a mile on the turf.
The Fourstardave will be rescheduled for Aug. 20, while the Adirondack will be rescheduled for Aug. 19.
The track remained open for simulcasting.
In 2011, the entire card on Aug. 27 was cancelled in advance of Hurricane Irene.
On Aug. 8, 2008, racing was cancelled after the second race after a severe storm washed out part of the track.
Extreme heat on Aug. 2, 2006 forced cancellation of the entire card.
The last race on Travers Day, Aug. 28, 2004 was canceled because of heavy rain. Prior to that, the final two races on Sept. 2, 1998 were canceled due to heavy rain.
