There are 131 horses, including the late addition of five paddock session horses, cataloged for the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association summer yearling and mixed sale, scheduled for Aug. 23.
The sale is set for one week later than in the past few years, but will be held as usual at the WTBOA sales pavilion at Emerald Downs in Auburn, beginning at 2 p.m. PDT.
The auction begins with 120 yearlings -by 56 different sires-on offer followed by one stallion prospect, six broodmares, and four horses of racing age.
Past sale graduates have seen success on the racetrack in recent few weeks.
At Emerald Downs, 2013 sale alumni O B Harbor, by Harbor the Gold, has won three consecutive stakes and most recently finished a strong third in the Longacres Mile (gr. III). His full brother is consigned to this year's sale.
In Southern California, 2015 Washington sale graduates have come out strong. Ninelives, by Sixthirteen, took a Santa Anita Park maiden special weight race in gate-to-wire fashion. Ninelives is a half brother to 2016 Washington champion 2-year-old Mach One Rules. His full brother is one of two by Sixthirteen cataloged for the August sale.
After winning a Santa Anita maiden special weight race in his debut, WTBOA sale graduate California Diamond next won the $125,000 Santa Anita Juvenile Stakes. And after topping the July Del Mar Paddock Sale for $125,000, he ran second in Del Mar's Graduation Stakes. He has earned $127,600. His sire, Harbor the Gold, is represented by 14 yearlings in the sale, nine colts and five fillies.
Tops amid the juvenile generation at Emerald Downs this season is unbeaten sales graduate So Lucky, a son of 2015 Washington freshman sire leader Coast Guard. Among the colt's three wins, which he won by a combined 12 3/4 lengths, are two stakes tallies. Coast Guard has six cataloged.
Among the yearlings by other stallions at this year's sale are eight from the first crop of multiple grade I Smiling Tiger. Grade II stakes winner and freshman sire Atta Boy Roy is represented by seven members from his second crop.
Private Gold, 2016 Washington leading sire, is represented by three offspring in the catalog.
