Phillips Racing Partnership's homebred Time and Motion turned the tables on 2015 Canadian Horse of the Year Catch a Glimpse Aug. 21 and took the $300,000 Lake Placid Stakes (gr. IIT) at Saratoga Race Course.
Last time out in the July 9 Belmont Oaks Invitational (gr. IT), Catch a Glimpse held off a late drive from Time and Motion, but the Tapit filly just found enough to win the 1 1/8-mile Lake Placid to win by a neck.
Under jockey John Velazquez, Time and Motion challenged the front-running Catch a Glimpse in the final turn, but the Mark Casse-trained filly appeared to kick away at the top of the stretch. Time and Motion responded, however, and was able to catch the 3-5 favorite late to end Catch a Glimpse's eight-race win streak.
The James Toner-trained filly broke her maiden in March at Gulfstream Park, after running fifth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IT), and has gone three-for-four in stakes since, with her only loss in the Belmont Oaks. The Lake Placid was her first graded score.
Catch a Glimpse set a sensible pace, clicking off fractions of :23.44, :48.58, and 1:12.78 through six furlongs, with some pressure applied by My Impression and Time and Motion stalking in third. The mile went in 1:36.55 and Time and Motion finished off the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.39 on firm turf.
The top pair was 2 1/4 lengths clear of Diamond Fields, who was followed by Elysea's World, Outsider Art, and My Impression to complete the order of finish. Pricedtoperfection was scratched.
The winner paid $5.50, $2.70, and $2.10 across the board. Catch a Gimpse delivered $2.20 and $2.10, and Diamond Fields brought $3.50 to show.
Time and Motion now has a 4-1-1 record from eight starts, with $623,150 in earnings. She was bred in Kentucky, out of the Kris S. mare Ellie's Moment.
