Attila's Storm Colt Tops New Mexico Sale

Description:

A Thoroughbred yearling colt by leading New Mexico sire Attila's Storm sold for $100,000 to top the New Mexico Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred sale Aug. 19-20 at Ruidoso Downs.

The sale topper, bred in New Mexico by R.D. Hubbard and named Hermano, was bought by Ruis Racing. Consigned by Hubbard's Crystal Springs Farm, the colt was produced by the multiple stakes-placed Dome mare Hang Glide.

Hermano is a full brother to stakes winners Thermal and Reaper and stakes-placed Glide Path and 2-year-old Another Brother, who is also stakes-placed. Thermal has earned $442,332 while Reaper has earned $373,370. Another Brother was a close second in the $173,000 Mountain Top Futurity and recently qualified for the $152,974 Rio Grande Senor Thoroughbred Futurity.

Ruidoso Downs media officials said in a press release that despite uncertain oil and natural gas markets, two-day sale showed stable results when compared with the 2015 auction.

In 2015, Thoroughbreds (mares and yearlings) averaged $7,675; this year's Thoroughbred yearlings averaged $7,748.
