Zayat Stables' homebred American Cleopatra, a full sister to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah , drilled six furlongs at Del Mar Aug. 22 in preparation for her scheduled start in the Del Mar Debutante (gr. I) early in September.
The daughter of Pioneerof the Nile was clocked in 1:12 4/5, handily, out of the gate. The time was the second-fastest of eight timed moves at the distance.
Monday's drill was the third for American Cleopatra since she dazzled in her career debut July 31 at Del Mar, winning a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race by two lengths under a hand ride in 1:03.38. She breezed a half-mile in :49 3/5 Aug. 11 and five furlongs in 1:03 2/5 Aug. 17.
Like American Pharoah, American Cleopatra is trained by Bob Baffert and is out of Zayat Stables' mare Littleprincessemma, by Yankee Gentleman .
The $300,000 Del Mar Debutante, run at seven furlongs, is set for Sept. 3.
