The only Ghostzapper yearling cataloged and the highest-priced pinhook offering are among the horses to watch during the Aug. 23 select session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s August yearling sale in Ocala, Fla.
With 274 horses cataloged, the session begins at 10:30 EDT and is followed by the Aug. 24-25 open sessions.
Consigned as Hip 30 by Mary Ellen Coenen’s M.E.C.C.O. Sales as agent, the Ghostzapper colt bred in Florida by Destiny Oaks of Ocala is out of an unraced daughter of Capote, Marvelous Me, who is a half sister to millionaire grade I winner and stakes-placed producer Mandy’s Gold and to a stakes winner in Germany. The colt was a $47,500 purchase by Cannonball Stables at the 2015 OBS October sale.
A Flatter colt from the Stuart Morris consignment, Hip 24 is the highest-priced previously sold horse in the sale, having been acquired by W. D. North Thoroughbreds and Morris Bloodstock Services for $80,000 at this year’s Keeneland January horses of all ages sale. Bred in Kentucky by Timber Town Stable, the colt is out of the winning Dixie Union mare Madoffwiththecash, a half sister to grade II winner and stakes producer Nothing But Fun.
Also on the horses to watch list, which is based on pedigree and previous purchase price (where applicable), are Hip 127, a Scat Daddy filly from the female family of grade I winner Critical Eye and multiple graded stakes winner Takeover Target; Hip 144, a son of hot sire Uncle Mo who is a half brother to grade III winner and grade II producer Maddalena; and Hip 184, a Gemologist colt who is a half brother to two stakes winners and to the dam of grade III winner and grade I-placed Toews On Ice.
