It looks like it will be impossible to beat Untapable, so here are some other ways you can make money. (Photo by Eclipse Sportswire)
One of this year’s most exciting 3-year-olds is a filly, and her name is Untapable. She most recently dominated the Kentucky Oaks and has been sensational in all of her starts this year. Perhaps you’ve heard of her?
Because of Untapable’s popularity and electrifying recent victories, she will be an overwhelming favorite on Saturday afternoon in Belmont Park’s Mother Goose Stakes. A $20 win wager on Untapable in the Mother Goose may return something in the $24 range, and that $4 profit may be just enough to get you another beer or a hot dog before the next race … nothing to turn your nose up at, but not exactly striking gold either.
However, if we venture into the world of exotic wagering (exactas, trifectas, superfectas, etc.), we find many more opportunities to make a little extra money by betting on this freakishly fast filly. Below are a couple of different ideas on how to make money by betting on Untapable in the Mother Goose:
1) $20 exacta 2-1
With this option, we concede that Untapable (#2) will win the race. The key to this exacta is determining who will finish second in the Mother Goose. I like House Rules (#1) for that spot. House Rules is trained by Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens and will be ridden by Joel Rosario, one of the best jockeys in the country and the rider aboard Tonalist when he won the Belmont Stakes. House Rules ran some very nice races in Florida this winter at Gulfstream Park, before getting roughly 2.5 months of rest. House Rules most recently competed in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes three weeks ago, where she was good enough to finish sixth of 13 fillies after making a run from dead last, a spot she is not accustomed to being in. I believe Rosario will have her in good position on Saturday for her Hall of Fame trainer and House Rules will be good enough to finish second in the Mother Goose.
2) $10 trifecta 2 / 1-6 / 1-6
Again, with this option, we concede that Untapable (#2) will win the Mother Goose. However, unlike option 1 where we bet an exacta and thus were only looking for a horse to finish second, here we are betting a trifecta and will need to figure out who is going to finish both second and third. One of the fillies I will use to finish second or third is House Rules, for the reasons mentioned above. The other filly I will “throw in” for second or third is Stopchargingmaria (#6). Stopchargingmaria appears to be improving and also comes from top-notch connections, being trained by multiple Eclipse winning trainer Todd Pletcher and ridden Eclipse winner Javier Castellano. This filly is fresh off a win in the Black Eyed Susan Stakes on May 16 and could take another step forward today. With this option, we will need Untapable to win the Mother Goose with House Rules and Stopchargingmaria finishing in the second and third positions.
Good luck with all of your wagers in this year’s Mother Goose, and hopefully we get paid handsomely after enjoying another wonderful performance by Untapable.
