Shade Tree Thoroughbreds' Three Rules, who has been described as a Saratoga-type horse by trainer Jose Pinchin, will seek to remain undefeated in his fourth start when he stretches out another furlong in the $300,000 Florida Sire Affirmed Stakes for 2-year-olds Sept. 3 at Gulfstream Park.
Three Rules, a Gone Astray colt bred in Florida by Shade Tree, Geoff Roy, and Tom Fitzgerald, has won his first three starts by a combined 15 1/2 lengths. Racing exclusively at Gulfstream, Three Rules won his debut in maiden special weight company and then fired off victories in the Birdonthewire Stakes and Florida Sire Dr. Fager Stakes, the latter at six furlongs.
The colt worked five furlongs in 1:01 1/5 Aug. 27 at Gulfstream on a track rated good.
"The track was deep and he just galloped along," Pinchin said. "He's doing well. He had a little issue right before the last race. He popped an abscess, but he has gotten over that and he's doing terrific."
Three Rules, who has earned $200,640, has assumed the lead past the opening quarter-mile or half-mile in all three of his races. After his win in the Dr. Fager, Pinchin said he believed the colt would have no issue traveling longer distances.
