Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farms welcomed a new resident in Ide Aug. 29 and, according to farm founder Michael Blowen, he's a head-turner.
Pensioned stallion Ide arrived at the Georgetown, Ky., retirement farm from Clear Creek Stud in Folsom, La.
"He's probably the most beautiful horse we've had here," Blowen said of the 23-year-old son of Forty Niner.
Campaigned by Old Friends supporter Peter Willmott, Ide was on target for the 1996 classics when injury ended his career. Ide won the 1995 Iroquois (gr. III) and Kentucky Jockey Club (gr. III) stakes at Churchill Downs and then in 1996 won the Southwest (gr. III) and Rebel (gr. III) stakes at Oaklawn Park. The latter proved to be his final start, as he was injured a few days after that win.
Ide, who enjoyed success standing in Louisiana, was pensioned before the 2015 stallion season. Some of his top runners include two-time Barbados Horse of the Year Feet On Flames, and multiple stakes winners Ide Like a Double, Ide Be Cool, Tensas Yucatan, and Junior College.
Ide was bred in Kentucky by David Garvin. He is out of the Naskra mare Maytide.
