Two Fillies Share Top Price at CTHS Sale

Fillies by Silent Name   and Justin Phillip   shared the top price of CAN$95,000 ($72,485) during the Sept. 1 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Ontario Division Canadian preferred yearling sale. The co-sale toppers were bred in Ontario.

Consigned by Gail Wood's Woodlands Farm as agent, the Silent Name filly was purchased by Stuart Simon, agent for William and Anne Scott. The chestnut filly, foaled Jan. 31, is out of the Canadian champion 2-year-old filly Dancing Allstar, who is also the dam of stakes winner Trini Brenette.

Part of the first crop of grade I winner Justin Phillip, the other sale-topper consigned by Willow Ridge Farm Thoroughbreds was bought by Windways Farm, agent. Produced from Dicey Girl, a daughter of Yonaguska who was stakes-placed at Saratoga Race Course, the filly is from the female family of grade III winner Irish Jasper and stakes winners Now Dance, Touchnow, Timetobewild, and Danceroftherealm, among others.

CTHS reported 181 yearlings grossed $3,481,800 ($2,656,613) for an average price of $19,236 ($14,677) and a median price of $11,000 ($8,393). The RNA rate was 27.8%, with 70 of the 251 through the ring not sold.

At the 2015 sale, 203 head sold for gross receipts of $4,225,400 ($3,163,695) for an average price of $20,815 ($15,662) and a $14,000 ($10,144) median. The RNA rate was 24.2%.

This year featured more than $100,000 in prizes awarded during drawings at the end of the sale.

Organized by prominent owner and businessman Robert Dabdoub, the incentive package included cash prizes of $20,000 and $10,000, as well as stallion seasons and various services, including training fees, donated by individuals, businesses, and organizations.
