Eddie Woods' Quarter Pole Enterprises was active at the Equine Sales of Louisiana consignor select yearling sale Sept. 7 in Opelousas, La., landing the top two highest-priced yearlings.
An Into Mischief colt registered the sale's highest price when Quarter Pole Enterprises went to $145,000 to land the yearling consigned by his breeder, Clear Creek Stud, agent. The Louisiana-bred, bay, March-born colt out of stakes-placed Mystery At Sea, by Capote, boasts siblings who already have enjoyed success racing in Louisiana in Louisiana Futurity winner Cook Some Rice, by Half Ours ; and Carmen's Mystery (War Front ), who placed second in the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie Stakes.
The highest-priced filly and second highest-priced yearling overall—from the first crop of Overanalyze —also was landed by Quarter Pole Enterprises. Bred in Louisiana by 4 M Ranch, the January-born, chestnut filly is the first foal out of the unraced Congrats mare Happy Destiny. 4 M Ranch also consigned the filly, whose second dam is grade III winner Dance O'My Life.
A sales company representative said Sept. 8 that final, summary sales figures were not yet available. Of the figures availabe, the number of horses sold was up 13% to 137, gross sales improved 39% to $1,477,900, and average increased 23% to $10,788.
"I thought we had a good sale, especially considering the current market," said Equine Sales Company sales director Foster Bridewell. "By teaming with the LTBA to present a unified sale, we were able to increase the average, median and gross sales from last year. The consignors did their part by bringing quality horses to the sale, and the buyers responded to that. We'd especially like to thank Eddie Woods and wish him good luck with his Into Mischief colt, as well as good luck to all the buyers."
