Stonewall Farms announced Sept. 9 the retirement and sale of multiple stakes winner and multiple graded stakes-placed Mei Ling to Hill 'n' Dale Farms.

Mei Ling is a 5-year-old daughter of Empire Maker   out of Seeking the Gold mare Lochinvar's Gold, who is a half sister to two multiple graded stakes winners, as well as a graded stakes producer. Bred by Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams, Mei Ling sold for $500,000 at the 2012 Keeneland September yearling sale to Barry K. Schwartz.

She broke her maiden going one mile at Belmont Park by 5 3/4 lengths, went on to win multiple stakes races, was runner-up in the Go For Wand (gr. III) to grade I winner Taris, and was narrowly defeated in the grade III Top Flight Invitational Handicap. Mei Ling won or placed in 16 of her 22 starts and retires with $522,383 in earnings.

"Mei Ling was unlucky not to be a grade I performer and she gave our family lots of thrills on the racetrack," Schwartz said. "We wish her well as a new member of the elite Hill 'n' Dale broodmare band."

"I love this pedigree," said Hill 'n' Dale president John Sikura. "Mei Ling was a superior racemare and is a beautiful physical."

Breeding plans are undecided at this time.
