Leading French Sire Linamix Dies at 29

Linamix at Aga Khan Studs
Aga Khan Studs announced Sept. 9 the death of leading international sire Linamix at age 29.
The French-bred son of Mendez—Lunadix, by Breton, raced as a homebred for Jean-Luc Lagardère. He won the group I Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French Two Thousand Guineas) and finished second in the CIGA Grand Criterium, Prix Jacques Le Marois, Emirates Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, and the Dubai Champions Stakes (all group I). Linamix retired to stud duty at Haras du Val Henry in Normandy with four wins and four seconds out of 10 lifetime starts.
His stud career got off to a fast start with eight stakes performers in his first crop, including group I Prix Jacques Le Marois winner Miss Satamixa. Linamix sired 73 (8%) black-type runners from foals of racing age, of which 42 were graded/group winners. His top runners include 1995 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sagamix and group I winners Slickly, Fragrant Mix, Cherry Mix, Carlotamix, Manighar, and Alpine Rose.
Linamix was acquired by Aga Khan Studs after the passing of Lagardère and retired from stud duty in 2007. During his career, he was France's leading sire in 1998 and in 2004. He was the country's leading broodmare sire in 2012. His influence on the breed continues through his sons Martaline, Al Namix and young sire Rajsaman.
