Paynter Colt Sells for $520,000 at Keeneland

Hip 747, a colt by Paynter, brought $520,000.
A colt from the first crop of grade I winner Paynter sold for $520,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale Sept. 16, becoming the fourth session's highest-priced horse about a quarter of the way into the session.
The colt was purchased by E5 Racing and Magic Cap Stable, Mike Ryan agent.
“I thought he was one of the top horses of the day," Ryan said. "I love Paynter. I have a share in him. I was so impressed with him on the racetrack—his courage, his tenacity, his desire to win.
"And then to overcome an incredible illness afterwards and to perform so well afterwards; he had to have the heart of a lion. This is the best one I have seen by him and obviously I was not alone because we stretched. We stretched big time.”
Consigned by Gerry Dilger's Dromoland Farm as agent, the Paynter colt (Hip 747) is out of stakes-winning Not For Love mare Bobbie Use, dam of grade I winner Starship Truffles, by Ghostzapper .
The owners race in Florida and New York and Ryan said after concentrating on purchasing fillies last year, they wanted to mix it up this year and add some good colts as well.
Bred in Kentucky by SF Bloodstock, the bay colt is, to date, the highest-priced Paynter yearling to sell at public auction.
Winner of the 2012 Haskell Invitational Stakes (gr. I), Paynter, a 7-year-old son of Awesome Again , stood the 2016 season for $20,000 at WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky.
Friday's fourth session marks the beginning of Book 2 of the sale.
