Zayat Stables buys Hip 1290, a good-striding Pioneerof the Nile colt for $575,000.

Recognized by many as the best-striding horse offered Sept. 17, Zayat Stables bought a Pioneerof the Nile   colt for $575,000 during the fifth session of the Keeneland September yearling sale. The colt was bought by EQB's Patti Miller, as agent.

The colt had been previously sold as a weanling for $85,000. At the time the colt went through the ring, his September purchase price was the second-highest of the day at the Lexington sale.

"We thought he was an exceptional physical with a tremendous way of moving, a brilliant and very fluid mover," Miller said. "We thought he handled the sale well. He has a tough mind and ticked all the other boxes. He really was a standout."

Bred in Kentucky by Bloodstock Investments II and consigned as Hip 1290 by Paramount Sales, the colt had been bought by Olin Gentry at the 2015 Keeneland November sale. The colt’s dam, the winning Songandaprayer   mare Keysong, is a half sister to stakes winner Miss Catalyst.

Zayat campaigned WinStar stallion Pioneerof the Nile as well as his son Triple Crown winner American Pharoah  .
