Final Tapit Offering on Day 5 Watch List

Description:

The final Tapit   yearling to be offered at the Keeneland September sale, as well as several individuals with significant upgrades in their female families, are among horses to keep an eye on during the Sept. 17 session that completes Book 2 of the auction.

Due to number of horses cataloged for the first of two Saturday sale sessions, this selection of top hips to watch is based on sire power and blacktype within the female family, any recent updates, and previous sale prices.

Consigned by Kentucky breeder KatieRich Farms as Hip 1274, the Tapit colt was produced from the Storm Cat mare Hurricane Flag. Hurricane Flag, who was purchased by KI Farm last November and sent to Japan, is a half sister to grade II winner Animal Spirits and to the dam of grade II winner Interactif. The female family is replete with stakes horses and descends from the rich Phipps family bloodlines that include champion and broodmare of the year Personal Ensign and grade I winners Miner's Mark and Traditionally.

A session 5 yearling with a significant family update not included in the catalog is Hip 1287, a Flatter   colt from the Hermitage Farm consignment. The colt's full sister, Paola Queen, won the Test Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course in early August. Both Paola Queen, a 2014 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Grupo 7C Racing for $180,000, and the Flatter colt were produced from the multiple stakes winner Kadira, a half sister to British stakes winner Our Channel. The colt was bred in Kentucky by CFP  Thoroughbreds.

Also benefitting from a recent update is Hip 1164, a Pioneerof the Nile   colt who is a half brother to Nonna Mela, an Arch   filly who annexed the Adirondack Stakes (gr. II) at Saratoga. Bred by WinStar Farm, the colt consigned by Van Meter-Gentry Sales was produced from the unraced Storm Cat mare Cool Storm, a full sister to grade I winner and sire Bluegrass Cat   and stakes winner Sonoma Cat, and a half sister to grade II winners Dramedy and Lord of the Game.

From Paramount Sales, Hip 1291 is a son of Bernardini   and half brother to two-time Canadian champion Miss Mischief. Produced from the stakes-placed Lemon Drop Kid mare Kid Majic, Miss Mischief was honored with Sovereign Awards as champion female sprinter and older mare. The colt was bred in Kentucky by H. Allen Poindexter.

Hip 1243 is a Ghostzapper   colt out of grade II winner Golden Dawn, a grade II winner out of grade II winner Paved In Gold. The colt is part of the Taylor Made Sales Agency offerings as agent for breeder Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings.
