Considering that they are consistently the leading consignors by number offered, sold, and gross receipts, it was not surprising that the top agencies in North America had the highest Book 2 receipts at the Keeneland September yearling sale.
With 65 sold from 93 offered, Taylor Made Sales Agency grossed $8,656,000 during the Sept. 16-17 sessions. The Nicholasville, Ky., agency was followed by Gainesway’s $3,670,000 (19 of 25 sold), Lane’s End with $3,237,000 (23 of 35), Eaton Sales, 17 of 26 sold for $2,527,000, and Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, which took in $2,407,000 for the eight head sold from 12 offered.
When looked at from the perspective of average price (with three or more sold), however, a different leader emerged atop the consignors' list.
Midway, Ky.-based KatieRich Farms had a 100% clearance rate with all four yearlings offered being sold for an average price of $386,250. Topping the KatieRich Book 2 consignment was a Ghostzapper colt from the family of grade I winner The Cliff's Edge who was purchased by Dickman Legacy Ranch for $650,000. Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert signed the ticket on behalf of the buyer.
During the Sept. 17 session KatieRich also sent out the final Tapit offering in the Keeneland sale, with Sallusto and Albina buying the colt as agent for $475,000.
In addition to being fourth-leading Book 2 consignor by gross, John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale ranked second by average, with two or more sold. Headed by the $1 million Curlin colt produced from Glinda the Good bought by E5 Racing, represented by agent Mike Ryan, during the Sept. 16 session, Hill ‘n’ Dale’s Book 2 horses average $300,875.
