An Acclamation filly bought as a breeze-up prospect topped the final day of the Tattersalls Ireland September Sale Part II.
Out of the 2-year-old winner Sister Red (Diamond Green), the filly hails from the "red" Cheveley Park-produced family of the champion 2-year-old Red Camellia, the Fillies' Mile winner Red Bloom and the grade I-placed Red Fort. Underbidder was Tom Whelan from Churchview Stables and she was sold by Cooneen Stud.
"She is a lovely filly, from a good pedigree," said purchaser John Hussey, who shook his head twice through the bidding process but returned to the fray to claim the winning bid of €46,000 ($51,520). He admitted afterwards that he "had to go a bit further" than he had planned.
"She will breeze with Grove Stud, and I always buy fillies, you can't go wrong with a nice filly," he said. Hussey also bought through Part I of the September Sale spending €72,000 ($80,640) on a Bated Breath filly who goes into training with Willie McCreery. The inaugural day 2 session of Part II of the September Sale produced an aggregate of €747,000 ($836,640), an average price of €6,229 ($6,976) and a median of €4,750 ($5,320) for 120 horses sold. Part II of the September Yearling Sale produced an aggregate of €1,868,400 ($2,092,608), a median of €5,000 ($5,600) and an average of €6,998 ($7,838).
"Last year, the September Yearling Sale broke a significant number of records and had double digit growth across the board and was complemented by an extremely strong renewal of Part II," said managing director Roger Casey. "As a result of this we were understandably faced with unprecedented demand for places at this year's Sale. To accommodate this demand we had to catalogue a significantly bigger number than in 2015 and the extra numbers especially in Part II invariably contributed to a market which has been quiet selective. That said, there was demand for a nice horse right up until the end of Part II and we have seen further progression in overall terms with a record average and median for Part I of the Sale along with the best ever aggregate ever for the two day Sale and as ever we will review all aspects of the sale in detail and will continue to consider appropriate ways to accommodate the increasing volume of applications in 2017. We look forward now to our next flat sale, the upcoming November Foal and Breeding Stock Sale on Nov. 4."
