Lexie Lou won her last time out in the July 30 Victoriana Stakes
Multiple champion and 2014 Canadian Horse of the Year Lexie Lou has likely seen the end of her racing days.
The 5-year-old daughter of Sligo Bay —Oneexcessivenite (In Excess) has been entered in the Keeneland November breeding stock sale, which begins Nov. 8 near Lexington, according to trainer Mark Casse.
"Whether she'll be retired, I'm not 100% sure," Casse said Sept. 23. "Gary and I have more to talk about, and we'll know more in the next 48 hours."
Lexie Lou is owned by Gary Barber, who bought her privately in the spring of 2014 from owner and trainer John Ross. Barber sent her to Casse, who won his first Queen's Plate Stakes with her three months later. Lexie Lou won four stakes that year, including the Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser, Wonder Where Stakes, and the Autumn Miss Stakes (gr. IIIT). She also finished second to California Chrome in the Hollywood Derby (gr. IT). Her performances earned her Sovereign Awards as Horse of the Year, champion 3-year-old filly, and champion grass mare.
While Lexie Lou won the grade II Dance Smartly Stakes and two other stakes this year, Casse indicated she hasn't been training at her best. She has a 10-4-4 record in 24 starts and earnings of $1,763,538.
