Keeneland Sees Gains in Final Book 5 Session

Keeneland reported gains in gross and average Sept. 23 during the 11th session of the September yearling sale, highlighted by the sale of a colt from the first crop of Point of Entry   for $100,000.

On the second and final day of the Book 5 session of the sale, Keeneland sold 262 yearlings for total receipts of $3,749,400, a 24.3% increase from the corresponding session in 2015, when 216 yearlings grossed $3,017,000. The average of $14,311 was 2.5% more than last year's $13,968, while the median of $8,750 was 2.8% less than $9,000 in 2015.

Through 11 sessions of the 13-day sale, Keeneland cumulatively has sold 2,477 yearlings for $270,363,600, down 3.4% from the same period last year, when 2,575 horses grossed $279,977,300. The average of $109,150 was just more than $108,729 in 2015. The median of $50,000 was 12.3% less than  $57,000 in 2015.

Brad Anderson signed the ticket for the session-topping Point of Entry colt, who is out of the Pulpit mare My McIntosh. He was consigned by KatieRich Farms.

A filly by Artie Schiller   brought a final bid of $80,000 from Eisaman Equine to be the day's second-highest priced yearling. Consigned by Lane's End, agent, the filly is the first foal of the Corinthian mare Henley, a full sister to grade II winner Mr. Commons.

Eisaman Equine purchased a total of three yearlings for $175,000 to be the session's leading buyer.

Lane's End, agent, sold 26 horses for $370,900 to lead all consignors.
