Tepin

Robert Masterson’s champion turf female Tepin, continues to march toward the Breeders’ Cup as the 5-year-old mare worked a half-mile in :49.01 Sept. 30 over the turf at Saratoga Race Course. The move was the fastest of 24 on the day’s tab at the Spa.

Trainer Mark Casse’s plan for Tepin is to ship to Keeneland Oct. 1, where the trainer will have his choice of prep races in the one-mile First Lady Stakes (gr. IT) or Shadwell Turf Mile (gr. IT) against males. Both races are Oct. 8.

Tepin’s work comes less than two weeks after her score in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile (gr. IT), her first start since taking Royal Ascot by storm in the Queen Anne Stakes (Eng-I) in June.

Winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT) at Keeneland, Tepin is unbeaten in five starts this year and is riding an eight-race win streak that dates back to last year’s First Lady.
