Bullet Train Gets First Stakes Winner

Whiskey Train (inside) winning the Oct. 1 Armed Forces at Gulfstream Park
Crestwood Farm's freshman sire Bullet Train got his first black-type stakes winner when Whiskey Train raced from near-last to first in the $75,000 Armed Forces Stakes at Gulfstream Park Oct. 1.
Owned by Road Trip Racing and trained by Laura Cazares, the Armed Forces was Whiskey Train's first win in two starts. The bay gelding and jockey Luis Castillo bided their time toward the back of the eight-horse field, tracking next to last for the first half mile. Coming out of the turn of the one-mile turf race, Whiskey Train split horses and engaged Sonic Mule in a dash to the wire. Whiskey Train prevailed by half a length in a final time of 1:40.09.
The newly minted stakes winner had been sold for $9,000 to McMachon & Hill Bloodstock out of John Greely III's Wintergreen Farm consignment at the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale. The gelding was bred in Kentucky by Greely with Mr. & Mrs. M.L. Wood. Greely also bred and raced Whiskey Train's dam Enjoy, a grade 1-placed daughter of Roar. Out of five foals of racing age, she has produced four winners. Whiskey Train is her first stakes winner. She has a yearling full brother to Whiskey Train named Trump Train.
Bullet Train, who is a Sadler's Wells three-quarter brother to European champion Frankel (Galileo), stands in Kentucky for $7,500.
