Stellar Rain at TNL Farms in New Mexico

Bubba Rain made his debut as the first starter for his sire Stellar Rain count, easily defeating a field of nine other New Mexico-bred juveniles by 13 lengths in a five-furlong maiden special weight at Zia Park Oct. 3.

The colt, owned by Ralph Vincent and Beverly Bouguet, stalked the pace in third through an opening quarter in :21.54 but quickly passed the leaders and extended his lead through the turn. He ran a half in :44.59 and finished out the five furlongs in :57.63.

The unraced stallion Stellar Rain is a son of the late Storm Cat out of the multiple grade I-winning mare Stellar Jayne, who won the 2004 Mother Goose Stakes and Gazelle Handicap (both gr. I), and the 2005 Ruffian Handicap (gr. I). She was also runner-up in the 2004 Coaching Club American Oaks and Alabama Stakes, and placed third in that year's Breeder's Cup Distaff Presented by NexTel (all gr. I).

Stellar Rain has nine reported foals in his first crop. He has stood at TNL Farm in New Mexico since beginning his stud career in 2013 and had a 2016 fee of $1,200.

Bred by Mary Paiz and Lance Gutierrez, Bubba Rain is out of the stakes-placed Carson City mare Carsoncityprospect.
