Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist worked Oct. 7 in preparation for the Breeders' Cup Classic

Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Nyquist completed four furlongs in :50 4/5 under exercise rider Jonny Garcia at Santa Anita Park Oct. 7, in his first timed workout since finishing sixth in the Sept. 24 Pennsylvania Derby (gr. II).

It was a move trainer Doug O'Neill hopes will bring him to the $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) at Santa Anita on Nov. 5.

"I got him in 50 flat with the last eighth in 11 and two," said O'Neill, who trains the Uncle Mo   colt for Paul and Zillah Reddam's Reddam Racing. "Running in the Classic is a tall order, for sure, but the horse has a lot of talent. He's undefeated at Santa Anita and was an undefeated Kentucky Derby winner. We believe in him and we support him, so we should be in good shape.

"He looked great in the workout."

Both O'Neill and Santa Anita clocker Dane Nelson had a five-furlong gallop out time for Nyquist of 1:04.
