While the weather offered up a perfect fall day in Saturday, Oct. 8, in Lexington, the power at Keeneland and in the surrounding area was out.
Track officials said the local power company, Kentucky Utilities, was aware of the problem and working on it. The power also was out at nearby Bluegrass Airport and some traffic lights were affected, requiring police officers to direct traffic. There was no estimate on when power may be restored.
With five stakes on the card and perfect fall weather, a large crowd is expected. First post of the 10-race card is 1:05 p.m. EDT.
While some early arrivals already had entered Keeneland, the track was not allowing additional patrons to enter because of safety issues. Elevators, of course, are not working and many of the inside areas of the track are quite dark.
