Multiple grade/group II winner Triple Threat, who his breeders Team Valor International and Gary Barber raced in France and North America, has been retired to stud at age 6 following an uplaced effort in the Oct. 8 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes (gr. IT) at Keeneland.

No plans have been formulated yet about where son of leading international sire Monsun will start his breeding career.

"He should have a lot of appeal as a stallion prospect," said Barry Irwin, president of Team Valor International. "Professionals have commented for years on his spectacular looks. In fact before (trainer Bill) Mott saddled him Saturday at Keeneland he studied him as he passed by and said, 'Handsome devil, isn't he.'

"Monsun probably was the best stallion to stand on the European continent in his era," he continued. "Triple Threat is a half brother to the dam of successful young sire Canford Cliffs, so he makes for a lot of appeal on paper as well as in person. He retires sound and raced sound his entire career."

Triple Threat won the group II Prix Eugene Adam-Grand Prix de Maisons-Laffitte and group III Prix La Force in France in 2013 for Andre Fabre. After being shipped to the United States in 2015, he won the grade II Monmouth Stakes in his U.S. debut and later finished third in the grade I Northern Dancer Turf Stakes at Woodbine for Mott.

Best in five of 23 races and an earner of $495,221, Triple Threat placed in three other black-type races in France, where he also finished fourth in the group I Criterium International at 2.
