A memorable Tattersalls October yearling sale came to a close in Newmarket Oct. 14 following two weeks of competitive trade that yielded record turnover.
Tattersalls sold 132,705,800 guineas ($172,517,540) worth of yearlings over the course of Books 1 to 3 to post a figure that hit a record mark for a fifth consecutive year. The average and median also posted significant gains of 19% and 30% to 101,612gns ($132,096) and 52,000gns ($67,600).
However, in contrast to the first session of Book 3, which was highlighted by a record 200,000gns ($260,000) top lot, Friday's final installment was a muted affair led by a pair of 38,000gns ($49,400) yearlings.
Book 3 ended its two-day run with significant gains in trade. Led by Thursday's record-setting 200,000gns Kodiac colt, the average grew by 37% to 17,927gns ($23,305) while median improved 44% to 13,000gns ($16,900).
The action immediately moved on to Book 4, which was headed by a son of Mrs Danvers' sire Hellvelyn who was knocked down for 20,000gns ($26,000) to Henry Candy. Book 4 concluded with turnover of 141,900gns ($184,470) for 43 yearlings sold.
