Description:

As activity for the Breeders' Cup World Championships ramps up at Santa Anita Park, Barretts will hold its fall yearling and horses of racing age sale at its old home in Pomona, Calif., Oct. 18. Fairplex Park is just 20 miles east of Santa Anita, which Barretts management felt would be more convenient than Del Mar, where the company holds auctions the rest of the year.

Some of the top, past California-bred graduates of this sale will have siblings in this year's catalog.

Multiple stakes winner Pacific Heat, who earned $366,280, sold for $175,000 out of John Harris' Harris Farms consignment in 2014. Her yearling full brother, a son of Unusual Heat—Hotlantic, by Stormy Atlantic  , is part of this year's Harris group, cataloged as Hip 228. Another stakes winner out of Hotlantic, Long Hot Summer (Street Boss  ), finished fifth in the Oct. 15 California Distaff Handicap at Santa Anita, which was won by Enola Gray.

Santa Anita Juvenile Stakes winner California Diamond, winner of the Oct. 16 Speakeasy Stakes at Santa Anita, went through last year's October sale as a $42,000 RNA. California Diamond's half sister Smiling Pretty (Smiling Tiger—Carrie's a Jewel, by Slewdledo) will be Hip 158 in this year's catalog, consigned by Stormy Hull and Ginger Samples' Critter Creek Farm.

Patriots Rule, a multiple stakes winner and earner of $422,075, graduated from the October sale in 2012. Sam Hendricks consigned him to the sale, where Charles Garvey purchased him for $8,000. Easterbrook Livestock Management, as agent for Dahlberg Farms, has a half sister to Patriots Rule in the catalog. Named Shes All Wound Up, and consigned as Hip 157, she is by Coil   out of Candy Factory, by Seattle Bound.

Andy Havens' Havens Bloodstock Agency, for Liberty Road Stables, is offering a half brother to multiple graded winner Liberian Freighter, who earned $759,090, and multiple stakes winner Red Outlaw. The colt, Hip 137, is by Storm Wolf  .

Lucky Pulpit  , the sire of champion California Chrome   and California's current leading sire, has nine in the catalog, including Hip 224. She is the first foal out of Cal-bred champion Ismene. Harris Farms is offering the filly for Stephen Ferraro.

Other sires represented include Creative Cause  , Empire Way  , Midnight Lute  , Ministers Wild Cat  , Square Eddie  , Tribal Rule, Tiznow  , and Twirling Candy  .

Stallions whose first foals are yearlings with offspring in the catalog include grade I winners Animal Kingdom  , Champ Pegasus, Data Link  , Overanalyze  , Richard's Kid, Smiling Tiger, and Ultimate Eagle.

In addition to the large contingent of yearlings, the catalog includes broodmares, weanlings, and horses of racing age. The sale will begin at 11 a.m. Pacific time and will be held in the Hinds Pavilion at Fairplex Park.
