Dariyan to Retire to Aga Khan Studs

Dariyan is a son of Shamardal, who has sired 8% black-type stakes winner to date.
The Aga Khan Studs announced Oct. 17 it will add group I winner and homebred Dariyan to the Haras de Bonneval roster for the 2017 breeding season.
A representative of one of the Aga Khan's most prestigious families, Dariyan was successful over 1,800 meters, 10 furlongs, and 1 1/2 miles. The son of Shamardal captured the group I Prix Ganay in May 2016 and was second in the group I Prix d'Ispahan. He won or placed in nine of his 13 outings.
Shamardal has proven to be an exceptional stallion, having sired 103 (8%) black-type winners, including 18 group I winners, from nine crops of racing age. He is also the sire of proven stallion Lope de Vega.
Dariyan is the first foal out of Hong Kong Vase (HK-I) winner Daryakana (by Selkirk) while his 3-year-old half brother Darabad (Dansili) is also a French stakes winner. Dariyan is a grandson of Prix de Diane and Prix de Vermeille winner Daryaba, from the close family of champion 3-year-old filly Darjina and leading European 3-year-old Almanzor.
Dariyan, the first Aga Khan Studs-bred colt retired to stud since leading sire Siyouni retired in 2011, is being syndicated. Breeders are welcome to view him at the Normandy stud during the Arqana October yearling sale, when shuttles will be arranged between the Deauville sales complex and the Haras de Bonneval.
